About this activity

Explore five traditionally-built Lapland villages while uncovering centuries of Finnish–Sámi cultural exchange and pivotal Winter War history. This 4-hour guided journey combines archaeological significance with authentic Arctic scenery, including a historic wooden church and views over a national park.

During the visit to Pelkosenniemi, you will learn how the Finns were received by the Sámis as these parts were considered as Sámi territory.

In the middle of tour, we will have a coffee break and then take you to Pelkosenniemi where you will learn about The Battle of Pelkosenniemi, which took place during the Winter War in 1939. It is one of the most important battles in the Lappish history.

After the break, we will go to an old wooden church and to the village of Pyhäjärvi, where the views of the National Park are exceptional.

The following villages are included:

• Suvanto

• Kairala

• Luiro

• Pelkosenniemi

• Pyhäjärvi
