About this activity

A 2-day private hiking and cultural immersion in the Ourika Valley that combines High Atlas trekking with authentic Berber hospitality. Sleep in a traditional village home, share meals cooked by local hosts, and explore dramatic clifftop settlements and cedar forests while gaining genuine insight into mountain life.

Great vistas, great people, great moments and a comfortable night’s sleep in a house of the village of Tizi n’Oucheg to sample Ourika and Berber culture at its best. One of our most beautiful excursions: an intimate, customizable tour of Ourika, its High Atlas vistas, rich saffron fields, dramatic cliff top villages and human warmth.

Sit down to homemade tajine diner and break bread with your village hosts. A good night’s rest and you’re ready for the second day. Up Ourika valley to Tazzintout and onwards to Ait Oucheg valleys with bird’s eye views of the villages of Anammer and Aguerd, litterally carved out the mountains side. Make your way through the unusual Aguerd gorge and the juniper and cedar forests to end this great hike in the village of Imi n’Taddart.

Our intimate knowledge of the Ourika valley and long established links with the locals allow you to fully appreciate this gentle exposure to the High Atlas foothills, landscapes, culture & people. Picnic lunch on the trail and diner & night at Rachid’s for a tantalizing tagine, cooked with fresh, local products and dollop of pride in hospitality.

Discover the millenia old culture of the Berber who have lived here since the dawn of history. Breath in the fresh mountain air, take in the grand vistas as the sun sets on the Atlas Foothills, soak in the cosy atmosphere of a mountain auberge, tuck in to great food before settling in for a sound night’s sleep.

Insider tips

  • Go in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October) when mountain temperatures are mild and wildflowers bloom; summer heat can be intense at altitude
  • Your hosts have deep local knowledge—ask about saffron cultivation and traditional village life to deepen the cultural exchange
  • Pack layers; mountain weather changes quickly, and evenings in the village can be cool despite warm days

Good to know

  • Private tour means personalized pace and flexibility; customizable itinerary based on your fitness level
  • Accommodation is basic but comfortable: a family home with traditional amenities, not a hotel
  • Meals include two dinners and one picnic lunch; vegetarian options available on request
  • Moderate fitness required; hikes involve elevation gain but are graded for mixed abilities
  • Meeting point and transport logistics from Marrakesh will be confirmed upon booking
