About this activity

Summiting North Africa's highest peak, Mount Toubkal (4,167m), on a challenging 7-day trek through remote Atlas Mountain valleys with Berber guides and traditional mule support. This is a backcountry expedition to landscapes most tourists never reach, combining high-altitude trekking with immersion in Berber culture and stunning alpine scenery.

Mount Toubkal is a mountain peak in southwestern Morocco, located in the Toubkal National Park. At 4,167 meters (13,671 feet), it is the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains and in North Africa. It is an ultra prominent peak located 63 km south of the city of Marrakech and is a popular destination for climbers.
Spend seven days exploring the valleys of the Atlas Mountains. Many of the treasures of this region are tucked away atop remote mountains or at the bottom of deep valleys; this means that trekking is the ideal way to explore the area. This seven days trekking tour in Morocco is challenging yet a rewarding experience. These off beaten tracks most tourists never see. Also, we will trek with a Berber English speaking guide, a Berber cook, muleteers and mules to carry our luggage. It’s a challenging walk rather than a climb. Make sure you bring your camera for the views from the summit are simply breathtaking !

Insider tips

  • Hire a porter or mule early; carrying 10+ kg on steep terrain at altitude is grueling.
  • Start the trek in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October) to avoid summer heat and winter snow.
  • Bring a good camera; sunrise from the summit is the highlight, but visibility depends on weather.

Good to know

  • Fitness level: This is a challenging multi-day trek, not a technical climb; moderate-to-good fitness and hiking experience essential.
  • Luggage: Mules carry your gear; bring a small daypack (15–20L) for daily use.
  • Accommodation: Mix of mountain refuges and basic guesthouses; expect basic facilities.
  • Language: Guides speak English and Berber; French helpful but not essential.
  • Health: Acclimatization is critical; arrive in Marrakech a day early to adjust to altitude.
