About this activity

Combine e-biking with Iceland's most dramatic coastal scenery on a 25 km ride through the remote Westfjords, starting after a visit to Dynjandi—a 100-metre cascade many consider Iceland's most beautiful waterfall. This full-day adventure showcases hand-built mountain roads, towering cliffs, and pristine Arctic beaches accessible only by bike.

Between Dýrafjöður and Arnarfjörður you can find a magnificent biking route. The tour starts at the Westfjords Adventures office in Patreksfjörður from where we will drive to Stapadalur aprox. 2 hours drive. On the way we will stop at the great waterfall Dynjandi, the largest waterfall in the Westfjords, about 100 meters high and up to 60 meters wide. It is thought by many to be the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland. By the Dynjandi waterfall there is a path leading up to the waterfall and its central gorge, allowing visitors to come close enough to touch the water as it tumbles down into the depths. From Stapadalur we will cycle along Kjaransbraut around 25 km. Kjaransbraut is a road that was built by a man called Elís Kjaran, using only one bulldozer for the job. The road is one of the most incredible constructions of the Westfjords. We will enjoy the unbelievable view of awesome cliffs and beaches. We will be picked up in Þingeyri after a nice stop at the Simbahöllin coffee shop. On the way back we will drive through the preserved area of Vatnsfjörður and along the beautiful Barðaströnd, with the yellow sand beaches.

  • Simbahöllin's coffee and local baked goods are essential refuelling—arrive with appetite after the bike section
  • The return drive is as scenic as the ride; sit on the left side of the van for unobstructed Barðaströnd beach views
