About this activity

Cycle through Iceland's dramatic Westfjords to reach Rauðasandur, a striking beach renowned for its rust-red sand contrasting with black cliffs and turquoise waters. This 4-hour guided tour combines coastal riding with mountain passes, historical storytelling, and café culture in one of Iceland's most remote and visually stunning regions.

Rauðasandur is the Westfjord’s most famous beach with its tinted sand bordered by black cliffs and the blue sea. Rauðasandur’s tranquility and the local guides knowledge of the best panoramic views. From Patreksfjörður we will cycle to the bottom of the fjord where we will make stop to enjoy the surrounding landscape and birdlife, see the steel ship Garðar and hear some of the ship’s history.

From the bottom of the fjord we will head uphill, over Skersfjall mountain, down hairpin curves and be rewarded with an amazing view – definitely a WOW moment. We will stop by Melanes and walk a short distance to the Sjöundá farm and listen to the heartbreaking story from that place.

The French Café at Rauðasandur welcomes us with a cup of chocolate or a cup of coffee and a traditional waffle. Enjoying the view from the terrace overlooking the sand. After resting we will bike back Patreksfjörður where you can visit our local swimming pool and relax in the hot tub with an amazing view over the fjord.
