About this activity

Combine biking and hiking through Iceland's northwest wilderness to reach the stunning Þingmannafossar waterfalls, tracing the legendary route of Raven Flóki—the Viking who named Iceland itself. This 7-hour adventure links geological history, Norse heritage, and dramatic Icelandic landscapes in a single immersive journey.

After a 30 minutes drive from Patreksfjörður to Birkimelur we will bike to the beautiful Vatnsfjörður Nature Reserve. We travel in the footsteps of Raven Flóki, the first Norseman to sail to Iceland in the year AD 865. With three ravens for navigation to the uninhabited island, he came ashore in Vatnsfjörður, climbed up a mountain from where he spotted a large fjord, full of ice. Consequently, he named the entire land, Iceland. After visiting the monument of Raven Flóki we will bike to and along the breathtaking waterfalls, Þingmannafossar.  The waterfalls are located on the oldest geological parts of Iceland. We will park the bikes and hike to many different levels of the waterfalls and enjoy the impressive view on the way. After the hike we will stop for a light lunch. On the way back we will stop to dip the toes into a natural hot spring pool.
