1 / 6Self-Guided The Dortmund Syndicate City Escape Game
About this activity
A self-guided escape game that transforms Dortmund into your playground—solve puzzles, complete photo tasks, and chase down a criminal mastermind through the city streets on your own schedule. Blend sightseeing with interactive storytelling, all you need is a smartphone and internet connection.
Dortmund starts you on the Markt, at the centre of the pedestrian zone, and the trail leaves in the direction of St. Reinoldi almost at once. From there it swings past the Altes Stadthaus and on to the Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte before turning back through the busy streets. This is a heist game played outdoors, with the city centre as the board.
The middle of Dortmund is flat and short on obstacles, so families with children, friends, couples and colleagues all get through the route comfortably. Two to five players form one team with a single phone, and every player is assigned a character with their own responsibility in the mission. Larger groups split up into several teams. Nobody guides you, and the start is whenever you agree on it.
How to play
In Dortmund the preparation is short.
- Book the City Game
- Check the instructions email
- Download the Loquiz app
- Start playing whenever you like
Magnus and the stolen formulas are the target. The team works through ciphers, riddles and photo tasks that lead from the Petrikirche across to the Opernhaus Dortmund and back past the Friedenssäule, with each character holding a piece the others need. Answers come out of the discussion, not out of walking quickly.
Two teams in the field at the same time makes it a contest, and that is what makes the format useful for team building days. You can break off, eat, and resume without losing your place. Dortmund plays on around you.
