About this activity

Explore two of Bavaria's most iconic castles—the intimate Linderhof Palace and the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle—on a full-day coach excursion from Munich through the Alpine foothills. This immersive cultural tour lets you experience King Ludwig II's architectural legacy at your own pace, with optional guided tours and flexibility to explore grounds, dine locally, or simply absorb the stunning mountain scenery.

Drive with an airconditioned, comfortable coach from Munich and visit the famous and fabulous castles built by the fairytale King Ludwig II.
These unique buildings in the midst of the Bavarian alpine landscape will
definitely fascinate you.
The first stop of our tour will take you to Schloss Linderhof, the smallest castle of the Bavarian king. It’s up to you to decide whether you choose to have a guided tour through the castle in english live, have a walk around the beautifully landscaped grounds or simply enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and get excited by the marvellous scenery.

We will then continue our tour to Hohenschwangau. Our stay there will offer you ample time to both try out the famous Bavarian cuisine in a restaurant and visit the castle of Neuschwanstein as well.

You can decide whether you want to see one or both castles from the inside with a guided tour and accordingly buy the tickets from our tour guide in cash.

Highlights

  • Linderhof Palace: Bavaria's smallest royal castle with meticulously landscaped grounds
  • Neuschwanstein Castle: The legendary 'fairytale castle' perched above Hohenschwangau village
  • Bavarian Alpine landscape: Dramatic natural backdrop framing both monuments
  • Flexible itinerary: Choose between guided castle tours, grounds exploration, or scenic relaxation
  • Authentic Bavarian dining: Time built in to sample regional cuisine
  • Comfortable air-conditioned coach transport from Munich city centre

Insider tips

  • Book castle tickets in advance through your guide if possible—cash payment on the day can limit availability, especially in peak season
  • Linderhof requires less climbing; save energy for Neuschwanstein's steep village approach if visiting both castles
  • Arrive early at Neuschwanstein viewpoint (Marienbrücke) for photos without crowds, or visit late afternoon for softer light
  • The village of Hohenschwangau has quieter restaurants away from the main tourist strip—ask your guide for local recommendations

Good to know

  • Total duration: 10.5 hours including coach travel, stops, and activities
  • Castles involve walking on uneven ground and stairs; comfortable footwear essential
  • Guided tours inside castles are optional and ticketed separately (payable in cash to guide)
  • Coach is air-conditioned; bring layers for variable mountain weather
  • Lunch/refreshments at Hohenschwangau are self-funded; budget accordingly
