Lubeck Self-Guided Detective Murder Mystery Game

In Lübeck the first scene is the Marienkirchhof, and from that yard the route works its way across the island that carries the old town. It runs down to the Holstentor and the Salzspeicher on the water, then back up through the brick streets towards St Jakobi. This is a detective game played on foot, and the whole of it happens in the old town.

Lübeck's centre sits between two arms of the water and is small enough to cross without effort, so the game suits families with children, groups of friends, couples and colleagues equally, and one person alone can play it. Up to four people form a team around a single phone; when the party is bigger it divides into several teams. No guide comes with you, and you set off at whatever hour you choose.

The case concerns the murder of Balthasar. You crack codes, take photographs at fixed points and question digital characters whose statements rarely agree. Around the Hospital of the Holy Spirit and in the lanes near the Buddenbrookhaus, each answer trims the list of people who could have done it.

Two or more teams playing at once turns the morning into a race, which is what makes it usable for teambuilding as well as for an ordinary day out. Stop when you want, take it up again later, and close the file in Lübeck once the last suspect is gone.
