For a chilled-out experience, go guided sea kayaking in Connemara and take a paddle through the deep waters of the stunning Killary fjord in Leenane. The fjord is in the heart of Connemara which forms a natural border between counties Galway and Mayo. It is 16 kilometres long and, in the centre, it is over 45 metres deep.
During this sea kayaking session in Connemara, you’ll see this beautiful coastline from a whole new perspective. The northern shore boasts spectacular views of Mweelrea Mountain; Connacht’s highest mountain, rising to 814 metres, while to the south are the Maumturk Mountains and the Twelve Bens.
We offer a session of flat water kayaking to give you the basic techniques. You can choose from a sit-on-top kayak (perfect for those who may be a little nervous), or the traditional closed cockpit version. Either way, the view is just as beautiful.
For ages 14 years and older only.
Mayo Abbey is rewarding year-round, but spring and early autumn typically bring the most comfortable temperatures and thinner crowds than peak summer. Morning departures tend to be quieter and cooler; booking ahead is recommended in high season as popular sightseeing tours slots in Mayo Abbey sell out.
