About this activity

Explore the soul of Irish hospitality on a private 5.5-hour pub crawl through Connemara's most authentic village bars, departing from Westport. Visit four character-filled pubs across Leenan, Maam Valley, Clonbur and Tourmakeady, sampling local food, drink and stories while travelling through stunning Mayo and Galway mountain scenery.

Visit legendary Irish pubs on this whirlwind tour sampling the best on offer, while travelling through the picturesque Mayo and Galway landscapes. Over a 5 to 6-hour tour you will travel through the beautiful villages of Leenan, Maam Valley, Clonbur and Tourmakeady stopping off at four different hostelries on route. Sample the best food and or drink Connemara has to offer while chatting with the local publicans.

The atmosphere and unique character of the Connemara Pub is something not to be missed. Enjoy a pint of Guinness or a tasty home-made seafood chowder, listen to a story from the barman or barmaid, sing a song or speak a few words as Gaeilge!

On our return we will wind our way through North Connemara, through the majestic mountains and valleys of the north before continuing along the coast of Lough Mask and back to Westport, in time for your evening plans.

Insider tips

  • Pace yourself across four pubs—ask your guide which ones are best for food vs. traditional music sessions depending on the day
  • Leenan and Clonbur pubs often draw locals mid-week; quieter on weekends, busier during summer
  • The return route via North Connemara and Lough Mask coastline is most photogenic in late afternoon golden light
  • Publicans love when visitors attempt a greeting in Irish—ask your guide to teach you a phrase beforehand

Good to know

  • Private tour: pickup/drop-off in Westport included; confirm exact meeting point and time on booking
  • Duration is 5.5 hours total including all transport and pub stops—plan accordingly for evening activities
  • Road conditions: Mountain passes are narrow but well-maintained; not suitable for those with motion sensitivity
  • What to bring: Warm, waterproof jacket (Connemara weather is changeable); comfortable walking shoes for pub visits
  • Food/drink costs at pubs are additional to tour price; budget EUR 10–20 per stop for a drink and snack
