About this activity

This sightseeing tours is one of the standout things to do in Mayo Abbey, Ireland. Rated 3.7/5 by 3 travellers, it combines the highlights below into a single, easy-to-book experience from €1171 per person. Spend the day fishing for wild Atlantic salmon and sea trout with a private guide (fluent in both French and English) on the famous Erriff River in Leenane, on the Mayo Galway border. Maximum 3 fishermen. Season: April to September.

Your fishing adventure starts near the beautiful Aasleagh Falls close to the River Erriff's estuary. Meet your Ghillie (guide) who is fluent in both French and English at Aasleagh Lodge overlooking the magnificent Killary fjord.

Having been designated a Beat you will then travel up the Erriff valley for the day. Fish for wild Atlantic salmon and sea (white) trout under the guidance of your Ghillie. He will be quick to advise which rods, reels and flies to use. A double handed Spey rod is the favoured method of fly fishing on this river.
Flies can be purchased at the fishery office before departing.

Perfect for fishing, the Erriff River is a spate river, and is characterised by lively streams and deep fish-holding pools.
