About this activity

Witness the world's third-largest geyser field at Geyser del Tatio (4,320m altitude) at sunrise, then soak in natural thermal pools fed by the same geothermal springs. This full-day adventure combines dramatic Andean landscapes, geothermal wonders, and authentic local culture in one immersive experience.

Our tour starts at 05:00 am (summer time) and 4:30 am (winter time) from your hotels in San Pedro de Atacama, with an approximate pick-up time of 30 min. We travel a total of approximately 99 km to our first stop in El Tatio, which is located at an altitude of 4320 meters above sea level. We arrive at dawn to observe a great geothermal spectacle next to the volcanoes of the Andes.

This National Park is well known in the world for its incredible columns of steam and water of 7 and 8 meters high and the temperature can reach about 86 degrees Celsius, in which visitors will have the best option for photos in the Andean sunrise, this geyser field is the third in size on the planet. During the afternoon type 15.00pm we will go to the Thermal Pool located inside the park, where you can enjoy an entertaining bath with water from the same geysers and which are at a temperature of approximately 30 ° C. On the way back we pass through Machuca, a small town decorated with adobe houses where we can enjoy the local cuisine, such as a rich anticucho of llama meat and / or goat cheese empanadas.

Duration of this service: 7.30 hours

Insider tips

  • Arrive at your hotel 10–15 minutes before pickup; the 30-minute collection window covers multiple accommodations
  • Bring a swimsuit and towel for the thermal pools—water is comfortably warm but fresh clothes for afterwards are essential in the cold mountain air
  • Wear layers: expect freezing pre-dawn temperatures (often below 0°C) that warm only slightly by midday at high altitude

Good to know

  • Early start: 05:00 am (summer) or 04:30 am (winter); plan accordingly and avoid heavy meals before pickup
  • Total drive distance approximately 99 km; wear sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses for intense Atacama UV exposure
  • Geyser fields involve uneven terrain and steam vents—sturdy footwear and respectful distance from hot springs are essential

Best time to visit

Visit during winter (May–August) for clearer air and more dramatic steam visibility at sunrise, or summer (November–February) for slightly warmer pre-dawn temperatures. Early morning is non-negotiable—geysers are most active and photogenic at dawn before the sun dissipates the steam plumes.
