About this activity

Experience Arctic wildlife and midnight sun wilderness in this immersive 3-day Lapland adventure. Meet reindeer and huskies on traditional farms, hike beneath the never-setting sun, and master outdoor survival skills in pristine Taïga forest—a quintessential Finnish summer escape.

DAY 1

9:30 REINDEER & HUSKY SUMMER EXPERIENCE (4 hours)

This summer combo will offer you a great insight into reindeer and huskies, two iconic Arctic animals. Your guide will first drive you to one of the most traditional reindeer farms in Lapland, located on the lovely shores of a peaceful lake next to Rovaniemi. As you will be taken into the surroundings, you will learn about the reindeer from the herders and will be given a chance to feed them their favourite food. After this great time with the reindeer, your guide will take you to the husky kennel to meet the excited dogs. The mushers will greet you at their farm, and so will the barking of their lovely huskies. The mushers will take time to share their lifestyle, explain to you what the job of a musher consists of, how they train their dogs and answer all your questions. All the dogs are very photo enthusiasts, so do not forget to bring your camera with you! Hot beverages and cookies included (not lunch).

21:00 WILDERNESS SURVIVAL TOUR (3 hours)

Hike with your outdoor guide in the Taïga forest under the colours of a never-setting sun and learn about wildlife, the plants and their properties, how to make a fire, and some basic survival skills. Special attention will be given to the warm colours offered by the Midnight Sun and the special atmosphere of an evening hike in the Taiga forest. This tour is indeed a perfect opportunity for all those of you who are nature lovers and photo enthusiasts! BBQ snack included.

DAY 2

9:30 CULTURAL CANOE TRIP AROUND ROVANIEMI (3 hours 30 minutes)

Visit Rovaniemi in a unique and original way! Canoeing together with your guide on the Arctic rivers, you will discover the highlights of Rovaniemi. This sightseeing tour will lead you to the Rovaniemi Local Heritage Museum, offering you to travel back in time and discover life in a local farmhouse a hundred years ago. Hot drinks and pastry included.

After the visit, your guide will drive you back to the city centre. The afternoon is free - keep some time for yourself, meet Santa Claus in his house or visit the Arktikum Museum on your own to complete a perfect cultural day! We also invite you to contact us if you wish to experience an extra tour.

EVENING: MIDNIGHT SUN DELIGHT OR NORTHERN LIGHT WILDERNESS TOUR (3 or 4 hours)

Experience the delightful colours of the Arctic nights with a relaxing evening tour! Depending on the time of the year, your guide will drive you to some great view spots to admire the Midnight Sun (May-August) or get a chance to observe the Northern Lights (September). Your experienced outdoor guide will take you to a hilltop, lakeside shores or riverbanks to enjoy the spectacular lights of the Arctic, with some typical Finnish snacks cooked on an open fire. They will also explain more about life in the Far North, and the phenomenon of the Northern Lights and the Midnight Sun in relation to the Arctic Circle, where Rovaniemi is located. Barbecue snacks included.

DAY 3

10:00 TRIP TO RANUA WILDLIFE PARK OR KOROUOMA CANYON AND AUTTIKÖNGAS WATERFALLS HIKE (5 - 7 hours)

Choose your all-day excursion from those two options:

(1) Hike around the Korouoma Canyon and the Auttiköngas waterfall national park. Korouoma is a 30-kilometre long and up to 130 meters deep canyon fracture valley located 110 kilometres southeast of Rovaniemi. It offers breathtaking scenery all year around, with its cliffs, rapids and waterfalls. This natural reserve is also home to rare species and a great nature area for hikers. In the wintertime, the waterfalls turn into fantastic ice formations which are well-known for ice-climbing and are great attractions for tourists coming from all around the world. Auttiköngas are one of Finland’s most spectacular waterfalls and offer thrilling nature scenery. BBQ lunch included.

(2) Visit the Ranua Wildlife Park to see most of the Arctic animals. At the park, you can follow the 2.5-kilometre wooden boardwalks through the forest where you get to see all the arctic animals in one place. This is a rare opportunity to meet the local animals that reside in Lapland and other parts of the Arctic. The animals you can spot in the Wildlife Park include the polar bear, brown bears, predatory birds, owls, wild boars, musk oxen, otters, Arctic foxes, wolves, wild reindeer, wolverines, and moose... A buffet lunch at the restaurant is included.

Want to experience more? Extend your package with an overnight BEAR-WATCHING EXPERIENCE in a wilderness hut next to the Russian border (you will then be back to Rovaniemi on Day 4 around 12:00). You may add this extra experience by selecting the option at the moment of booking.

Insider tips

  • Bring a quality camera or smartphone—the Midnight Sun creates golden light ideal for photography from roughly 21:00 onwards, and the huskies are famously camera-friendly.
  • Wear layered clothing and sturdy hiking boots even in summer; Taïga terrain is uneven and weather can shift quickly near the Arctic.
  • Ask your husky farm guide about the dogs' training methods and ask to help with basic commands—mushers enjoy sharing their expertise with engaged visitors.
  • The reindeer farm location on the lake shore offers a tranquil alternative to busier attractions; arrive early in the day when animals are most active.

Good to know

  • Duration: 3 days total; Day 1 includes a 4-hour reindeer/husky experience starting at 09:30 and a 3-hour evening wilderness hike at 21:00.
  • Included: hot beverages, cookies (Day 1 morning), and BBQ snack (Day 1 evening); lunch is not provided.
  • Bring: camera, weather-appropriate hiking gear, sturdy boots, insect repellent (summer Taïga has mosquitoes), and a light jacket for evening.
  • All-abilities note: The reindeer farm visit is relatively gentle; the Taïga hike is moderate intensity over uneven terrain—confirm fitness level with operator in advance.
  • Meeting point and transfer logistics: Confirm pickup details with supplier upon booking; Rovaniemi town centre is the typical starting location.
