About this activity

A 4-day immersive adventure in Finnish Lapland centred on chasing the Northern Lights with guaranteed sightings or full refunds, plus backcountry ski trekking and wilderness exploration from Rovaniemi's Arctic interior.

EVENING 1: Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Adventure in Lapland (7 hours)

This night expedition is designed to maximise your chances to see the magical Aurora Borealis during your stay in Rovaniemi and experience a true night expedition. After we have collected and properly dressed our guests with professional winter overalls and boots, your Aurora guide will drive you far away from Rovaniemi, straight out to the wilderness to start hunting for the Northern Lights. If the conditions are not favourable anywhere in Lapland, we will cancel the tour and issue a full refund for you (or reschedule your for other night).

We always check the evolution of the weather conditions during the tour, and you may decide together to jump back in the minivan and get to another location if you feel so. As this excursion is a 7-hour Aurora hunt, you will get the chance to visit several different locations.

This adventure will also offer you the unique opportunity to drive long distances through the Lappish wilderness and explore Arctic nature. The pictures taken by your guide will be sent to you the next day. Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, so unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we may not always be able to observe them. In such cases, you will receive a 50% refund to cover the fuel and equipment costs of the tour.

EVENING 2: Ski Trekking under the Northern Lights (3 hours 30 minutes)

Tonight, you will enjoy an evening backcountry Ski Trekking safari to explore untouched Arctic nature. Backcountry skiing, or off-piste skiing, is a great way to explore remote areas of Lapland covered in deep snow. Unlike alpine skiing and cross-country skiing, which are practised on groomed trails, backcountry skiing allows you for a more adventurous trip through hilly terrains, forests and lakes. As the skis are equipped with skin, they allow you to go uphill, and downhill without excessive speed. Like snowshoeing, it does not require much practice to get used to the gear and to the techniques to slide on deep snow. This makes it very comfortable and easy to use, even for beginners!

Your guide will choose a location that best fits the level and needs of the group, but also that allows you to get a good chance to see Northern Lights if they appear. They will also provide you with safety instructions and teach you some techniques on how to use the skis on fresh snow. Refreshments and a typical Finnish campfire snack will be provided halfway, as your guide will lite a fire to keep you warm.

EVENING 3: Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Adventure in Lapland (7 hours)

Join a second Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Adventure and get one more chance to chase the Aurora Borealis by minivan. If it is relevant and follows the weather/solar activity conditions, your guide will try to take you to different routes every night so that you can enjoy a different experience and get to see more of the winter scenery of Lapland.

EVENING 4: Northern Lights Snowmobile Tour / Northern Lights Family-Friendly Snowmobile Safari (4 hours)

Experience the magic of Arctic nature during the night time, following the trails away from the city lights with just the snowmobiles headlights and moon illuminating the way ahead. The snowmobile trails will lead us through snowy white Taiga forests. With a snowmobile ride through the Arctic wilderness, you will have the chance to enjoy the unique atmosphere of a winter night. Along the route, we always make several stops to admire the frozen nature, beautiful landscapes, and, hopefully, observe the Northern Lights.

If you are traveling with your children under 18 years old, you will join our Northern Lights Family-Friendly Snowmobile Safari. This family-friendly adventure promises an intimate and personalized experience. The adults enjoy snowmobiling whilst the children enjoy the ride seated comfortably in a sleigh pulled by our guide.
