About this activity

Forage for seasonal berries or wild mushrooms in authentic Lapland forest alongside experienced local guides at Happy Fox farm, learning traditional Sámi harvesting and preservation techniques while sampling homemade treats. A rare chance to taste and understand the pure, nutrient-rich natural foods that sustain Arctic life.

This is a unique nature trip to the forest at the Happy Fox forest farm or its nearby surroundings, in the exotic, one of a kind Lappish landscapes.

On this tour, you will get to taste berries and pick – depending on the season – either natural berries or forest mushrooms. Maybe we`ll make delicious snack out of them.

We’ll learn about the pure natural goods of Lapland, as well as the health benefits of berries and herbs. Traditional Lappish instructions for preparing or conserving berries and mushrooms are also given.

On this tour, we’ll enjoy a berry pie, coffee and tea.

At the Happy Fox we have only local guides with a real knowledge of the arctic nature, so the nature trip with us is a genuine experience.

The seasons of natural berries in the Rovaniemi area:

Bilberry: from mid-July to early September
Cloudberry: from mid-July to late August
Crowberry: from late July to late fall, until snow
Bog bilberry: from late July to late September
Lingonberry: from early September to mid-October
Cranberry: from late September to late fall, until snow

The seasons for mushroom-picking can’t be defined exactly. Different mushrooms grow in various ways and they have only roughly been divided into spring, summer and fall mushrooms. Most mushrooms are picked during midsummer and the fall.
