1 / 7From Hambantota: Mirissa Whale Watching Tour
About this activity
Experience one of the world's premier whale-watching destinations on a guided boat tour from Hambantota to Mirissa, where blue whales, sperm whales, and dolphins are regularly spotted during peak season. This 7-hour excursion combines an early-morning ocean expedition with cultural immersion in a coastal fishing village.
The south tip of Sri Lanka is the easiest place to see blue whales in a very short time. And especially Mirissa & Weligama areas are the well-known spotting places of the blue whales in the entire world.
Sperm whales, right whales, killer whales, whale sharks, turtles, and kinds of dolphins are also spotted in this part of the island all around the year whale watching near Mirissa. It depends on what month you are traveling. November through April is whale watching season.
If you are joining a tour between November and April, then we take a 1.5-hour drive to a village called Mirissa.
At 6:30 am, we take you whale-watching on a relatively large boat. Dolphins are also often seen in the area. The boat should return to Mirissa around 12:00 pm. We are then to take you for lunch nearby.
Afterward, we take you back to your hotel.

Who it's for
Best time to visit
November through April offers peak blue whale activity and calm seas; morning departures (6:30 am) maximise sighting chances when whales surface to feed. Outside this window, marine life diversity decreases, though year-round dolphin and turtle encounters are possible.
