About this activity

A 10-hour alpine journey through two of Argentina's most spectacular national parks, connecting Bariloche to San Martín de los Andes via the legendary Seven Lakes Road. This scenic loop covers 352 km of pristine Patagonian landscapes, passing turquoise glacier-fed lakes, dense Andean forests, and charming mountain villages.

This full-day excursion from Bariloche covers 352 kilometers through the Nahuel Huapi and Lanín National Parks, starting from Bariloche along National Route 237 and traveling along the eastern end of Lake Nahuel Huapi to the Limay River.
Continuing along National Route 231, we border the lake along its northern shore up to Villa La Angostura, where we take a short break, to continue on our way to Lakes Espejo, Correntoso, Escondido, Villarino, Falkner, Machónico, and Lácar, on the shores of which the city of San Martín de los Andes is located.
The return to San Carlos de Bariloche is by the same route.
- Discover Villa La Angostura, a charming mountain village that will envelop you with its Andean charm and architecture.
- As you cross the Seven Lakes Route, you will encounter the fascinating beauty of the lakes.
- Each of the lakes has a unique charm, surrounded by ancient forests that whisper stories of yesteryear.

Highlights

  • Traverse all seven lakes (Espejo, Correntoso, Escondido, Villarino, Falkner, Machónico, Lácar) in one day
  • Cross Nahuel Huapi and Lanín National Parks on Routes 237 and 231

Insider tips

  • Request a window seat on the left side heading towards San Martín for the best lake views; swap sides on the return
  • Bring a good camera and plan for multiple photo stops—the light changes dramatically across the route
  • Villa La Angostura's brief stop is best used for a café break rather than shopping; budget time accordingly
  • The route is less crowded in shoulder seasons (April–May, September–October) when weather is still stable

Good to know

  • Full-day commitment: 10 hours total, typically departing early morning and returning early evening
  • Bring layers and a windbreaker—mountain weather changes quickly; sun protection essential year-round
  • Roads are paved throughout but winding; not recommended if prone to motion sickness
  • Lunch is not included; pack snacks or plan to purchase in Villa La Angostura or San Martín de los Andes
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off in Bariloche typically included; confirm meeting location and time at booking
