About this activity

A full-day horseback adventure through Iceland's geothermal heartland, combining authentic riding through Reykjadalur Valley with a soak in natural hot springs and panoramic views stretching to the coast. This tour showcases Iceland's volcanic landscapes, hidden waterfalls, and thermal features in one immersive experience.

Vistas and Volcanoes This day-long tour offers spectacular views featuring the variety of the magnificent Icelandic nature. In Reykjadalur Valley we will experience hot springs and also take a relaxing bath in a warm stream. On our way back to the farm, you can enjoy spectacular panoramas over the surroundings and also the waterfall Djúpagilsfoss. Later on we will have a fantastic view over the village Hveragerði and the Ölfus area, and also all the way down to the coastline, where we might see the Westman Islands, weather permitting. This is a unique opportunity to experience Icelandic nature in all its variety.

Please note: The tour is suitable for all levels of riding experience from beginners to advanced. During booking process, we ask our clients to inform us about their riding experience, which helps us to choose the right horse for everyone. Beginners and experienced riders ride together. We always try to tölt as much as possible, but do not gallop for safety reasons.

Highlights

  • Ride through Reykjadalur Valley to natural hot springs and warm stream bathing
  • Experience Icelandic tölt (smooth four-beat gait) on well-matched horses
  • Visit Djúpagilsfoss waterfall with sweeping valley views
  • Panoramic vistas over Hveragerði village, Ölfus region, and coastal stretches
  • Possible sightings of the Westman Islands on clear days
  • Suitable for beginners through advanced riders with tailored horse selection

Insider tips

  • Bring a waterproof bag or dry bag for your phone and valuables during the hot spring swim—there's no secure storage at the soaking spot
  • Wear layers you don't mind getting wet; the warm stream temperature varies, so test the water before fully committing
  • Morning departures offer the clearest visibility for Westman Island sightings; afternoon light is better for photography of the valley
  • Mention any riding concerns during booking so guides can match you with the right temperament and size horse

Good to know

  • Total duration is 9 hours including travel, riding, and breaks; plan for a full day away from Reykjavik
  • Bring swimwear and a towel; changing facilities may be basic, so wear quick-dry clothing underneath
  • The tour operates in all weather conditions typical for Iceland; waterproof jacket and sturdy closed-toe boots are essential
  • No galloping is used for safety—riding focuses on tölt and walk, making it accessible for genuine beginners
  • Minimum fitness level required to sit a horse for several hours; riders with back or joint issues should consult ahead
