About this activity

A bespoke 7-day family adventure through Iceland's most iconic geothermal and geological wonders, combining activity choices (horseback riding, ATV, or cave exploration) with world-class natural attractions like the Blue Lagoon, Golden Circle sites, and tectonic plate-viewing experiences. Perfect for families seeking both relaxation and active exploration in summer.

DAY 1

Airport Pickup and transfer to hotel. A short Reykjavík sightseeing.

DAY 2

HORSE BACK RIDING, ATV OR LAVA CAVE EXPLORATION

BRIDGE BETWEEN TWO CONTINENTS

The Bridge Between Continents is a small footbridge over a major fissure, which is formed by tectonics and rifting of the two continental plates, Eurasian and North American plates, from each other.

REYKJANES LIGHTHOUSE AND CLIFFS

After passing the Reykjanesviti lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in Iceland, we drive towards the sea where we enjoy a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean, high cliffs and black rock formations.

BLUE LAGOON

Blue Lagoon is one of the best natural spas in the world. The history of the Blue Lagoon can be traced back to 1976 when a reservoir was formed in Svartsengi from the work of the Geothermal Power Plant Svartsengi. People discovered that the soil had a positive effect on the skin, especially for those suffering from psoriasis skin disease. Since then the Blue Lagoon has become one of the world’s most amazing baths and spas in the world.

DAY 3

THINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK.

Thingvellir is characterized by tectonic rift valley and marks the rifting of the Eurasian and North American plates from each other. In 930 the Icelandic Parliament, the first democracy in the world, was established at Thingvellir. Thingvellir became a World Heritage Site in 2004. We walk to Öxarárfoss waterfall.

STROKKUR AND THE GEYSER AREA.

You probably did not know that the english name “geyser”, derives from the one and only in the Haukadalur area. The geyser Geysir itself erupts boiling water up to 70 meters, but is almost inactive. Strokkur, only few meters apart from Geyser, erupts on average every 4 minutes.

GULLFOSS, GOLDEN WATERFALL.

Near Geysir is the beautiful Gullfoss Waterfall. Enjoy the view from above and walk down the path to get close to the powerful waterfall.

FRIÐHEIMAR.

At Friðheimar greenhouse, tomatoes are cultivated, using geothermal heat and geothermally generated electricity. With a tropical climate inside, they have opened a restaurant, right there in the tomato field. The main ingredients in their menu are, of course, tomatoes grown there. This is a very rare and unique lunch experience.

SECRET LAGOON.

Secret Lagoon is a natural geothermal bath, where you bath in raw nature and relax at the end of the day.

DAY 4

SELJALANDSFOSS

Seljalandsfoss waterfall is 60 m high, and is one of few in the world where you can easily walk and experience it from behind.

SKÓGAFOSS

Skógafoss is the most famous waterfall in Iceland. Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss are both in glacier rivers, meltwater from Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. Eyjafjallajökull is now famous for it´s 2010 volcanic eruption that disrupted air traffic in Europe.

SÓLHEIMAJÖKULL GLACIER

Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier, flowing out of the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull. Underneath Mýrdalsjökull is the famous volcano Katla.

DYRHÓLAEY

At Dyrhólaey there is an amazing view of the south coast landscape and black beaches. Dyrhólaey is a 120-metre high promontory that the sea has eroded from the headland. In summer Dyrhólaey is rich in bird life, the most common, the puffin.

REYNISDRANGAR AND REYNISFJARA BLACK BEACH

Reynisdrangar Black beach”]Iceland is a volcanic island, made up mainly of basaltic material that is black in color. Hence, the “Black Beaches”. The black beach was, in 1991, ranked as one of the ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world. On the beach there are the remarkable basalt columns. Reynisdrangar is a seastack, a geological formation made by wave erosion of surrounding material. Overnight near Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

DAY 5

SKAFTAFELL NATIONAL PARK

Skaftafell National Park belongs now to a larger, Vatnajökull National Park, which covers Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe, and the surrounding wilderness. In Skaftafell we hike to the beautiful Svartifoss, in English, the Black Waterfall. Svartifoss cascades about 20 m (65 ft) down a beautiful cliff, made of hexagonal black basalt columns.

JÖKULSÁRLÓN GLACIER LAGOON BOAT TRIP AND DIAMOND BEACH

Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is a beautiful lagoon in front of a calving glacier. We will enjoy the amazing view of floating icebergs in a lagoon and walk between them at the black beach, which is sometimes referred to The Diamond Beach. A boat trip in the lagoon is optional and can be booked on location or in advance with us. The sailing tour between icebergs and close to the glacier makes the visit even more memorable.

FJARÐÁRGLJÚFUR CANYON

Fjarðargljúfur canyon is a beautiful canyon carved and formed by glacial river during the termination of the last ice age, about 9.000 years ago. The canyon is about 100 m deep and 2 km long. Fjarðárgljúfur became world famous after appearing in one of Justin Bieber´s music video.

DAY 6

REYKJAVÍK SIGHTSEEING AND PERLAN MUSEUM

WHALE AND PUFFIN WATCHING AND WHALE MUESUM

DAY 7

AIRPORT DROPOFF

Highlights

  • Choose your own adventure: horseback riding, ATV tours, or lava cave exploration
  • Walk between two continents at the Bridge Between Continents tectonic fissure
  • Soak in the geothermal Blue Lagoon, formed from a power plant reservoir and famed for skin-healing minerals
  • Explore Thingvellir National Park's rift valley and 1930s parliament site (UNESCO World Heritage)
  • Witness Strokkur geyser eruptions and the geothermal landscape that inspired the English word 'geyser'
  • View dramatic Reykjanesviti lighthouse and Atlantic clifftop vistas

Insider tips

  • Book the Blue Lagoon experience early in your trip so minerals have time to nourish skin before departing
  • Choose horseback riding or ATV on Day 2 if weather is clear; lava cave exploration is equally rewarding in overcast conditions
