About this activity

Korouoma is a 30-kilometre long, and up to 130-meter deep canyon located 110 kilometres south-east from Rovaniemi. It offers breathtaking scenery all year, with cliffs, rapids and waterfalls. This natural reserve is also home to rare species and a great nature area for hikers. In the wintertime, the waterfalls turn into fantastic ice formations, well known for ice-climbing and a great attraction for tourists coming from all over the world.

Your guide drives you to Korouoma Canyon for a nice hike in the national park, where you have the chance to enjoy the incredible peacefulness of the area. You have a chance to observe some of the most spectacular frozen waterfalls in Europe, whilst enjoying the beauty of the snowy nature. As you hike through the canyon, your guide teaches you about the local nature and your surroundings. With a bit of luck, you may even spot tracks made by wolves, lynx, wolverines, moose, reindeer, weasels or Arctic hares.

Enjoy a personal experience in Korouoma Nature Reserve

Refreshments and a typical Finnish campfire snack will be served around the open fire to keep you warm. This is a great opportunity for your guide to show you how to build a fire using traditional methods. No need for matches or a lighter, your guide will use flint & steel and natural materials you can find in the nature that surrounds you (we can do this in conditions as cold as -30°C).

Lunchtime is also a great moment for your guide to share their passion and knowledge and answer all your questions about nature, Lapland and life in the Arctic.

The excursion lasts around 7 hours, including transportation, hiking (approximately 5 kilometers in total) and lunchtime around the fire. You will be back in Rovaniemi between 16:00 – 17:00.

In all our activities, our groups are limited to 8 people maximum. It is very important for us to provide you with the best experience possible, and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions. As we usually say – the smaller the group, the bigger the experience!
