About this activity

Combine Reykjavík's festive charm with Iceland's most iconic natural landmarks on a single immersive 9-hour day. Start with a guided Christmas walk through twinkling downtown streets and local holiday traditions, then venture to the Golden Circle to witness geysers, waterfalls, and tectonic rifts in the crisp December light.

This tour will give you a unique insight into Iceland´s December festive traditions, starting with a walk in Reykjavik followed by the wonderful Golden Circle.

Reykjavik Christmas Walk

Wandering through the beautifully decorated city set against the darkness of the morning will get you into the Christmas mood. Twinkling Christmas lights, hidden pearls in downtown Reykjavík, little tastes here and there where culinary secrets will be revealed along with some quaint traditions. At the end of the tour everyone will receive a little Christmas present, a souvenir from Iceland to bring back home. The tour ends by a 4 star boutique hotel where you will be picked up to join our afternoon Golden Circle tour.

Golden Circle Tour

In one afternoon you visit the historical and geological wonder Thingvellir National Park, the world-famous Geysir geothermal area with spouting springs and the nearby Gullfoss waterfall, queen of Icelandic waterfalls.

Get in a pre-Christmas mood inside and outside the city landmarks!

Highlights

  • Festive walking tour of decorated Reykjavík with seasonal food tastings and Icelandic Christmas traditions
  • Thingvellir National Park—UNESCO site straddling the Mid-Atlantic Ridge
  • Geysir geothermal area with active hot springs and erupting geysers
  • Gullfoss waterfall—dramatic two-stage cascade in pristine wilderness
  • Souvenir gift included to commemorate your visit

Insider tips

  • The December darkness works in your favour—Christmas lights shine brightest in the morning, and afternoon Golden Circle views are framed by moody winter skies ideal for photography.
  • Layer heavily; the morning walk is urban and relatively sheltered, but the afternoon Golden Circle is fully exposed to Icelandic weather—bring waterproof outerwear and insulated boots.
  • Book ahead if travelling in late November–early January; this tour fills quickly during peak Christmas season.
  • Arrive early for the Reykjavík walk to spot lesser-known downtown gems before the main sightseeing crowds arrive.

Good to know

  • Duration is 9 hours total; the itinerary pairs a morning Reykjavík walk with an afternoon Golden Circle excursion, with a pick-up transition at a central boutique hotel.
  • Bring layers, waterproof jacket, sturdy hiking boots, and gloves—weather is cold and changeable in December.
  • Geothermal areas and waterfall viewpoints involve uneven terrain; wear slip-resistant footwear.
  • A small Icelandic souvenir is included; no additional purchases required for the main experience.
