It was built in the 13th-century and developed under the influence of different cultures over subsequent centuries, which is reflected in the architecture. The fortress occupies about 7 hectares and is divided into two sections: modern and historical. In the new part, there is a restaurant, hotel, cafes, and shops. In the old part of the fortress, there is the Ahmediyeh Mosque, a church, a family castle of Jakeli, and a historical museum. After visiting Rabati Castle, we will have a lunch break.

14:15 Lunch Place
Duration: 1 hour

At the lunch place, we spend one hour where you will try many different traditional Georgian dishes.

15:50 Vardzia
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

The next point of our journey is Vardzia – a cave monastery dating back to the 12th century. The road follows the upper Mtkvari River, passing through narrow canyons at Aspindza along a stunning valley cutting like a green ribbon between arid, rocky hillsides. Excavations have shown that the area of Vardzia was inhabited even earlier during the Bronze Age. Unfortunately, Giorgi III failed in completing the building of Vardzia. The construction was brought to an end by his daughter Queen Tamar. During the reign of Tamar, the importance of Vardzia considerably increased and achieved great prosperity, amazing the contemporaries. Vardzia’s paintings represent a significant monument of the majestic Georgian painting. There you can find a bell tower, main church, cave dwellings, rooms, chapels, pharmacy, and wine cellars. Infrastructure involves access tunnels, water facilities, and provision for protection.

17:40 Khertvisi View Point
Duration: 10 minutes

In the south of the country, not far from the famous cave town of Vardzia, at the confluence of the Paravani and Mtkvari rivers, there is a popular attraction, the fortress of Khertvisi. The ancient fortress perfectly matches nature: Surrounded by mighty mountains, the muscular walls look even more powerful. The date of the construction of the defense in different sources is indicated in different ways. The first mention of it was back in the time of the Great Silk Road. The castle is located on the top of the mountain and, at one time, was difficult to access. That's why Khertvisi is kept in good condition.

19:55 Borjomi Central Park
Duration: 40 minutes

Our last stop is at Borjomi, a hydro-thermal health spa resort in the southern region of Samtskhe-Javakheti. It has an international reputation for its geothermal spring mineral water resources. We walk in Borjomi Central Park and taste mineral water Borjomi which has unique healing qualities. It won its first gold medal in 1907 in Belgium. The water has been bottled since 1896. Finally, we can visit some attractions and enjoy incredible nature in Borjomi Central Park.

22:30-23:00 Drop off at the hotel

Highlights:

Rabati Castle

Vardzia

Khertvisi Fortress

Borjomi Central Park
