About this activity

If you've just landed in Brașov, this is the tour to take! You will meet in front of the George Bariţiu Library and spend the next few hours walking through the medieval heart of one of Transylvania's most layered cities, led by a certified local guide who knows the past and present of this city.

The route covers the essential landmarks - the White Tower and Black Tower on the southern fortification line, the Graft Bastion, Council Square at the heart of Saxon merchant life, the Black Church and Honterus Courtyard, Rope Street, Catherine's Gate, Schei Gate and the Weavers' Bastion - but the real story is in the details most visitors never hear.

This is an outdoor tour, designed to give you the historical framework, the architectural context, and the insider perspective that turns a collection of medieval buildings into a coherent story about trade routes, religious conflict, guild power, Saxon fortifications, and the centuries of overlapping cultures that built this city. You will not enter any of the sites.

From Council Square, your guide will unpack more than just the square itself - the role it played in Brașov's economic and political life, the guild houses that ringed its edges, and the way power was structured in a Saxon merchant city where being born outside the walls meant you had almost no rights.

The fortification towers, bastions, and gates tell the story of a city that was attacked, besieged, and burned repeatedly - and survived because of the defensive walls you will walk alongside and through.

This is a small-group experience which means there is space to ask questions, to stop when something catches your attention, and to move at a pace that allows for actual conversation rather than just information delivery.

At the end of the tour, every participant receives a detailed guide to Brașov - the restaurants, cafés, wine bars, viewpoints, bakeries, and lesser-known corners of the city that locals actually use. This is not a list of sponsored businesses.
