About this activity

Combine mountain biking, jungle trekking, and Inca heritage on a 4-day adventure that descends 60km through the cloud forest to Machu Picchu. This lesser-known route blends genuine Inca stone paths, unexcavated ruins, and a thrilling high-altitude bike descent with dawn views of the sacred valley.

The Inca jungle Trail is a new route offered to Machu Picchu which involves biking, walking and just being. This multiple terrain trip includes recently discovered real Inca paths, archaeological ruins and a 60 kilometer bike downhill. This is done on brand new mountain bikes through the mountains from Abra Malaga to the green valleys below and the jungle base of Santa Maria. The four day, three night trip ends with a dawn view of the valleys below Machu Picchu.

Highlights

  • 60km downhill mountain bike ride from Abra Malaga through cloud forest and jungle
  • Trek authentic Inca pathways and visit newly documented archaeological sites
  • Stay in remote Santa María jungle base, immersed in authentic Andean landscapes
  • Summit Machu Picchu at sunrise after acclimatization on the trail
  • Mix of biking, hiking, and rest days designed to avoid altitude sickness

Insider tips

  • The bike descent is the main physical highlight—maintain control on steep sections and expect rocky, root-laden terrain; experienced guides brief on technique daily
  • Arrive in Cusco 2–3 days early to acclimatise; altitude sickness risk drops significantly if you rest before starting
  • Pack layers: mornings are cold at high elevation, afternoons warm in the jungle; waterproof gear is essential during rainy season

Good to know

  • All-terrain mountain bikes provided; prior mountain biking experience recommended but not required
  • Three nights accommodation in simple jungle lodges and mountain camps; no luxury amenities
  • Group sizes typically 6–12 people; mixed fitness levels accommodated with flexible pace
  • Includes meals, bikes, and guides; travel insurance with mountain activity coverage advised
  • Not suitable for severe altitude sensitivity or limited mobility; significant elevation changes (5,200m to 2,000m+)
