Moray's concentric circular terraces were built by the Inca as an agricultural laboratory to test different crops at varying altitudes and microclimates.

The site sits at 3,500 meters (11,500 feet) above sea level in the Sacred Valley, making altitude acclimatization important before visiting.

Each terrace ring drops about 150 meters vertically, creating up to 20 different temperature zones within the same location.

Moray was largely unknown to the outside world until it was spotted from the air in the 1930s; local people had farmed around it for centuries.

The terraces still demonstrate precise Inca engineering—water channels carved into the stone still function to irrigate crops today.
