1 / 6Zwolle Self-Guided Detective Murder Mystery Game
About this activity
Solve a Sherlock Holmes–themed murder mystery across Zwolle's streets using the Loquiz app, combining puzzle-solving, exploration, and detective work in a self-guided 2-hour adventure. This story-driven game transforms the city into your crime scene, letting you play solo or in teams at your own pace while discovering local landmarks.
The trail starts on the Grote Kerkplein in Zwolle, at the foot of the Academiehuis Grote Kerk, and leads out into the ring of streets inside the old moat. From there it takes you past Museum de Fundatie and on to the Sassenpoort, the medieval gate on the southern edge of the centre. It is a self-guided murder mystery game, played on foot, with the streets of Zwolle standing in for the crime scene.
The centre of Zwolle is compact and flat and the distances between stops stay short, which makes this an easy outing for families with children, groups of friends, couples and colleagues. It also works on your own. A team is up to four people sharing one phone; larger groups split into several teams and play alongside each other. Nobody is waiting on a guide and there is no fixed departure time, so you can linger at the water or move straight on.
How to play
Four steps stand between you and the first clue in Zwolle.

- Check the instructions email
- Download the Loquiz app
- Start playing whenever you like
The case is the murder of Balthasar. You gather evidence as you walk: coded messages to unpick, photo tasks at points along the route, and statements from digital characters whose accounts do not line up. The trail crosses the green of Park de Wezenlanden before turning back towards the Sassenpoort, and each puzzle solved cuts the list of suspects a little further.
When several teams set out at once the investigation becomes a race, which is what makes it a practical teambuilding activity as well as a day out. You can break for lunch, pick up where you left off, and close the case in Zwolle at whatever hour suits you.
