1 / 5This sightseeing tours is one of the standout things to do in Galway, Ireland. Rated 4.0/5 by 3 travellers, it combines the highlights below into a single, easy-to-book experience from €1171 per person. Get hooked! Enjoy a superb day wild brown trout fishing on one of the most scenic rivers in Connemara with an expert private fishing guide. Pax: min 1, max 3 fishermen. Available February to end September.
The wild brown trout offers excellent sport from the season opener in March through its close at the end of September. The many fisheries in Connemara have networks of interconnected lakes ("loughs") and rivers populated by the native trout of Ireland. This wild brown trout in Connemara's lakes and connecting rivers average in size from one to two pounds. The trout fishing is very dependable, with hatches starting in April and peaking in May and early June. Then, caddis, crane flies and terrestrials keep the trout looking up all summer long. Because Connemara's rivers and lakes are acidic, food is scarce, so the trout rise eagerly to dry flies and take wet flies and nymphs with little hesitation. The "ferox", or large cannibal brown trout, prey on their smaller brethren in larger lakes. Your knowledgeable local private fishing guide/ghillie (who is fluent in both French and English) will advise you on the best flies to use and take you to the best places to fish on the rivers.
Galway is rewarding year-round, but spring and early autumn typically bring the most comfortable temperatures and thinner crowds than peak summer. Morning departures tend to be quieter and cooler; booking ahead is recommended in high season as popular sightseeing tours slots in Galway sell out.
our guide Zara was nice enough, but a pride of lions right at dawn felt a bit rushed honestly. On a rainy sunday. Would only really suit you if youre not fussy, spotted maybe 30 species. Bit disappointed ngl, would only really suit you if youre not fussy, out for a solid 6 hours, loved it
So nice this one, a massive herd of elephants crossing in front of us was amazing and Hana the guide explain everything good. Better than Bangkok for sure, we go again!
our guide Pedro sorted everything for us and a leopard up a tree near the river was the highlight, and first thing in the morning.
