About this activity

Combine mountain biking through Bulgaria's Stara Planina range with authentic Balkan cuisine at carefully chosen stops along the route. This 7-hour adventure blends outdoor exploration with culinary discovery, taking you through pristine high-altitude meadows near the geographic centre of Bulgaria.

This tour will not only take you to significant places in the Balkans, but will also reveal some of his "culinary secrets". In a casual setting you will enjoy dishes prepared on non-traditional and Balkan recipes. The so-called "delicious stops" are support points for key locations along the route and perhaps even just because these stops you will want to go the distance over and over again.
The Uzana area on the Balkan mountain ridge is a place where time seems stopped. The reliefs are soft and the Triglav massif (the second highest in Stara Planina after Botev peak) seems to be at your fingertips. Here it smells of grasses, herbs and wild strawberries, here is the Geographic center of Bulgaria! To the more ambitious we offer a small challenge - the climb of Peak Ispalin (1523 m). There you will step with one foot in the North and the other in South Bulgaria. The view is magnificent!

Highlights

  • Ride through Uzana plateau with panoramic views of Triglav massif and surrounding peaks
  • Stop at multiple 'delicious stops' featuring traditional and innovative Balkan dishes
  • Optional challenge: climb Peak Ispalin (1,523 m) to straddle the North–South Bulgaria divide
  • Pedal through wildflower meadows with herbs, grasses, and wild strawberries
  • Explore one of the Balkans' most remote and least-touched mountain regions

Insider tips

  • The 'delicious stops' are strategically timed rest points—pace yourself to enjoy both the ride and the food without rushing
  • Early morning departures catch the best light for photography and avoid afternoon heat on exposed sections
  • If attempting Peak Ispalin, confirm your fitness level with the operator; the extra climb adds significant effort but rewards with exceptional views
