About this activity

Here in Japan and want to reach inner peace? With this experience, you will be able to take part in a traditional tea ceremony and relax your mind and soul.

For this experience, you will first make your way to the Yanesen tourist information center, where you will enter the tearoom.

In the beginning, you will be learning about the explanation of Zan's words and the equipment used during the tea ceremony. The teacher will then make a delicious matach tea to serve to you. Afterwards, you will be able to try out on making one your own.

In Azuchi-Momoyama period, Sen-no-rikyu invented “Wabicha” which became the origin of modern Sado.

An excellent example of Japan’s historical, cross-cultural pollination, the tea ceremony is an extension of Zen Buddhism and a tradition that has been followed for more than a millennium. It’s well worth taking the time to attend a tea ceremony in Tokyo in order to learn more about its fascinating heritage.
