Snowshoeing Trip to Luosto Amethyst Mine

<p>Get ready for a complete experience of the Pyhä-Luosto fells!</p>

<p><strong>This excursion starts in Rovaniemi</strong>, where your guide will pick you up directly from your accommodation. You will be offered professional Winter clothing and Winter boots to make sure that you will never get cold. Remember to dress appropriately though as, in Lapland, temperatures may drop as down as -30C! </p>

<p>Your guide will then drive you to Pyhä-Luosto National Park, the oldest national park in Finland. During this 1h30 drive, you may already enjoy the snowy scenery of Lapland forests and, if you are lucky, spot some local animals such as reindeer along the road. Once arrived in the national park, your guide will give you safety instructions and teach you how to use snowshoes. </p>

<p>You will make your own way through the forests of the national park, <strong>snowshoeing in the deep snow and exploring the arctic nature</strong>. Your guide will always be leading you and will be happy to share their knowledge about the surrounding nature, Lapland, its history and its culture and life in the Arctic. The snowshoeing excursion takes around one hour (2,5 km) until you reach the bottom of Lampivaara, the hill of the amethyst mine. A <strong>typical Finnish snack with hot drinks</strong> will be cooked over an open fire. This is the perfect opportunity for your guide to show you their fire-making skills, in the traditional way - without any match or lighter!</p>

<p>After this nice BBQ snack, you will be transported by &#34;snow train&#34; (the so-called Pendolino) to the top of the hill into the amethyst mine. As you go up the hill, you can <strong>enjoy the view</strong>, the horizon line in the distance, the other fells and the Taiga forest spreading all around you. The <strong>guided visit of the amethyst mine</strong> lasts around one hour. You will be explained about the geology and nature of the area and the formation of amethyst crystals 2000 million years ago. Stories contain also beliefs that are associated with this purple gemstone all of which are positive.about the geology. You will also get the chance at the end to dig the ground to<strong> find your own jewel </strong>(and you can even keep it!). </p>

<p>You will then snowshoe back through the forests, trying a different route or - if you are too tired - follow the beaten track. You will be back to Rovaniemi around 16:00 pm, with plenty of memories and fun! </p>
