1 / 10Shore excursion Vesuvius and Site of Herculaneum (6 hrs)
About this activity
Explore two of Italy's most historically significant sites in a single 5.5-hour shore excursion: ascend Mount Vesuvius to its active crater for panoramic Gulf of Naples views, then descend into the remarkably preserved Roman town of Herculaneum, buried by the catastrophic 79 AD eruption. This combination offers unparalleled insight into both volcanic geology and ancient Roman life.
The Volcano offers a spectacular view of the Gulf of Naples with its islands. Vesuvius is an active volcano, in continental Europe, as well as one of the most studied and dangerous in the world, due to the high population and its explosive characteristics, the peak reaches 1,281 meters. You get to the crater with a 20/25 minute walk uphill. The ticket to the crater includes an internal guide, (2 hours) .Herculaneum was buried under meters of ash and pumice from the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. A professional private guide is highly recommended to better visit it in its most important structures. The guide is on request, will help you skip the long lines even at the ticket office, and is not included in the tour price. On request it is also possible to take a lunch break in a traditional local restaurant to taste a set menu (all inclusive) with local foods, drinks, wine and desserts.
