About this activity

The game in The Hague opens on the Buitenhof, at the gate of the Binnenhof and a few doors from the Galerij Prins Willem V. From there the route works round the Hofvijver and into the streets of the old government quarter. It is an outdoor escape game on flat ground, played between the ponds, the courtyards and the wide avenues.

Families, friends, couples and colleagues all play it. Two to five people form a team on one phone, and each player is given a character with a role in the mission, so the group has to share what it knows to get past a puzzle. Larger groups are split across several teams. There is no guide and no fixed departure time, and the centre of The Hague is level throughout, though the traffic on the main avenues means teams tend to bunch up at the crossings.

How to play

Four steps put the game in The Hague within reach.

  1. Book the City Game
  2. Check the instructions email
  3. Download the Loquiz app
  4. Start playing whenever you like

Magnus is the man you are following, and the stolen formulas went with him. The team cracks codes, works out riddles and takes photo tasks along the way, with the roles handed out at the start deciding who can get at which clue. The trail runs past the Haags Historisch Museum, along the Lange Voorhout and back down to the Riviervismarkt, where the formulas are finally recovered.

With more than one team on the route it becomes a competition, and that is the shape most teambuilding groups choose. Nothing is timed, so a break on a terrace by the water costs nothing and the trail waits. From first clue to last, the game stays inside The Hague.
