Secrets of Zierikzee Self-Guided Scavenger Hunt & Walking Tour

Secrets of Zierikzee is a self-guided walking tour that sets a chain of puzzles through the old harbour town. You start on the Kerkplein, beside the Nieuwe Kerk, and the route carries on to the Sint-Lievensmonstertoren, known locally as the Dikke Toren, and to the Gravensteen. Solving a task at each stop unlocks a short piece about what the building is and how it was used. Along the way it plays like a scavenger hunt through Zierikzee, with something to find at every stop.

It fits couples, families with older children, groups of friends and teams from work. One phone carries a team of up to four players, and groups larger than that split up and compare results afterwards. Solo walkers do well too. There is no guide waiting and no departure time, so you can begin whenever the streets of Zierikzee suit you.

The tasks mix riddles, questions and photo assignments that keep your eyes on doorways, gables and quay walls. Further along you reach the Gasthuiskerk and the Korenmolen de Hoop, and the game explains what a town like this did with a church, a mill and a fortified gate. Instead of a list of dates you get the story of how the place worked.

Two or more teams turn it into a competition, since every correct answer scores and the leaderboard keeps the running order. Companies use the same format for a team afternoon. Nothing is on the clock, so you can break for lunch and pick up the trail again in Zierikzee.
