Walking tours cover on average 3-5 km and are the best way to discover hidden gems.

About this activity

The exploration game in Bunschoten-Spakenburg starts on the Spuiplein and heads straight for the water. The route runs along the Kerkstraat, past the Historisch Centrum Spakenburg and down to Spakenburg Harbour, where the old fishing boats are moored. Each stop comes with an explanation of what you are looking at, from the traditional costume to the trade that built the village. In practice it plays as a self-guided scavenger hunt and walking tour through Bunschoten-Spakenburg in one.

Couples, families, friends and colleagues all walk the same route. A team of one to four people shares a single phone, and larger groups form several teams that take the harbour streets separately. Playing on your own is fine as well. Nobody leads you around and there is no fixed departure time, so you can go out when the boats are in and the quay is quiet.

How to play

Getting ready before your first task on the quayside is quick.

  1. Book the Exploration Game
  2. Check the instructions email
  3. Download the Loquiz app
  4. Start playing whenever you like

Along the way the game gives you puzzles, riddles and photo tasks that take you to the Botterwerf and the Scheepstimmerwerf Nieuwboer, where wooden boats are still repaired. Because every question points at something in front of you, you learn about the shipyards, the harbour and the local dress rather than reading a list of dates about Bunschoten-Spakenburg.

With several teams out at once the walk becomes a contest, and the leaderboard compares the scores at the end. Groups of colleagues use it for teambuilding days too. Nothing is timed, so you can stop for fish on the quay and finish the rest of the route through Bunschoten-Spakenburg afterwards.
