About this activity

Experience the stark beauty of Agafay Desert, a dramatic stony landscape 30km south of Marrakech, combining camel trekking through nomadic terrain with high-energy quad biking across arid hills and Berber villages. This 7-hour adventure delivers authentic desert immersion—from traditional mint tea in a Bedouin tent to lunch beside Lalla Takerkoust lake—without the crowds of Saharan alternatives.

The Agafay Desert is one of the most beautiful natural sites around Marrakech, a stony desert or Reg located at thirty kilometers from the imperial city, offering great natural landscapes and breathtaking panoramic views.

A professional and bilingual driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or guest house in Marrakech around 9:00 am to drive you directly to Agafay Desert.

Upon your arrival, you will cross a small track to reach the desert camp where you will join a camel ride tour. An original and authentic way to discover the amazing stony desert of Agafay.

You will be invited to enjoy a good Moroccan mint tea inside a nomad tent in the heart of the desert. A unique opportunity to have a short rest and appreciate the extraordinary calm of this little corner of heaven, while enjoying a magic view on the wonderful white hills and desert landscapes.

After the break, the adventure begins... A 2-hours quad biking tour or buggy will allow you to visit the great arid hills, wadis, oases and several Berber villages. The tour will end at the famous lake of Lalla Takerkoust where you will have your lunch in a local restaurant on the lakeside.

After lunch, you are free to join a water sport activity on site, go for a walk with a local tour guide or return to Marrakech.

Insider tips

  • The quad portion is the day's highlight—request a more experienced guide if you're confident off-road, as skill levels vary among drivers
  • Arrive early at the lake; the best lunch spots fill quickly and views are superior before midday heat peaks
  • Wear layers; the desert can feel cool in morning shade but scorching in direct sun, and lake breezes shift rapidly
  • Bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses—the stony desert reflects intense UV light, not just direct rays

Good to know

  • Pickup around 9:00 am from your Marrakech hotel; full day return by late afternoon (confirm exact times with operator)
  • Quad biking experience not required, but basic fitness helps—vehicles are manual and terrain is rough
  • Lunch and water sports at the lake are included in the tour; other activities (guided walk, additional sports) available at extra cost
  • Not ideal for young children or those with mobility issues; camel and quad riding require reasonable balance and strength
  • Bring a light jacket and swimwear if planning water activities; the lake is cold year-round

Best time to visit
