About this activity

A comprehensive 5-day private winter escape combining Iceland's most iconic natural wonders with family-friendly adventures. This guided tour delivers geothermal spas, tectonic landscapes, horseback riding, and genuine Northern Lights hunting across Reykjavík and beyond.

DAY 1

Airport Pickup and transfer to hotel. A short Reykjavík sightseeing.

DAY 2

HORSE BACK RIDING, ATV OR LAVA CAVE EXPLORATION

BRIDGE BETWEEN TWO CONTINENTS

The Bridge Between Continents is a small footbridge over a major fissure, which is formed by tectonics and rifting of the two continental plates, Eurasian and North American plates, from each other.

REYKJANES LIGHTHOUSE AND CLIFFS

After passing the Reykjanesviti lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in Iceland, we drive towards the sea where we enjoy a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean, high cliffs and black rock formations.

BLUE LAGOON

Blue Lagoon is one of the best natural spas in the world. The history of the Blue Lagoon can be traced back to 1976 when a reservoir was formed in Svartsengi from the work of the Geothermal Power Plant Svartsengi. People discovered that the soil had a positive effect on the skin, especially for those suffering from psoriasis skin disease. Since then the Blue Lagoon has become one of the world’s most amazing baths and spas in the world.

NORTHERN LIGHTS

Northern lights hunt in the evening.

DAY 3

THINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK.

Thingvellir is characterized by tectonic rift valley and marks the rifting of the Eurasian and North American plates from each other. In 930 the Icelandic Parliament, the first democracy in the world, was established at Thingvellir. Thingvellir became a World Heritage Site in 2004. We walk to Öxarárfoss waterfall.

STROKKUR AND THE GEYSER AREA.

You probably did not know that the english name “geyser”, derives from the one and only in the Haukadalur area. The geyser Geysir itself erupts boiling water up to 70 meters, but is almost inactive. Strokkur, only few meters apart from Geyser, erupts on average every 4 minutes.

GULLFOSS, GOLDEN WATERFALL.

Near Geysir is the beautiful Gullfoss Waterfall. Enjoy the view from above and walk down the path to get close to the powerful waterfall.

FRIÐHEIMAR.

At Friðheimar greenhouse, tomatoes are cultivated, using geothermal heat and geothermally generated electricity. With a tropical climate inside, they have opened a restaurant, right there in the tomato field. The main ingredients in their menu are, of course, tomatoes grown there. This is a very rare and unique lunch experience.

SECRET LAGOON.

Secret Lagoon is a natural geothermal bath, where you bath in raw nature and relax at the end of the day.

DAY 4

REYKJAVÍK SIGHTSEEING AND PERLAN MUSEUM

WHALE AND PUFFIN WATCHING AND WHALE MUESUM

DAY 5

AIRPORT DROPOFF

Highlights

  • Soak in the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, formed by natural geothermal processes
  • Walk between two continental plates at the Bridge Between Continents
  • Explore Þingvellir National Park's UNESCO-listed rift valley and historic waterfalls
  • Choose your adventure: horseback riding, ATV exploration, or lava cave discovery
  • Hunt for Northern Lights on winter evenings with a private guide
  • Visit Reykjanesviti, Iceland's oldest lighthouse, overlooking dramatic Atlantic cliffs

Insider tips

  • Winter (November–February) offers the longest darkness needed for Northern Lights visibility; clear, cloudless nights near the city's edge improve your chances significantly
  • The Blue Lagoon's mineral-rich waters are genuinely warm year-round, but arrive early or late in your itinerary window to avoid peak crowds
  • Pack thermal layers and waterproof outer wear even if you choose spa time; Iceland's weather changes rapidly throughout a single day
  • Day 3's Strokkur geyser erupts roughly every 5–10 minutes—position yourself upwind to avoid scalding spray, especially with children

Good to know

  • Private tour structure means flexible daily itineraries and no shared-group constraints; confirm activity preferences (horseback riding vs. ATV vs. lava cave) when booking
  • Airport transfers and hotel accommodation included; confirm your accommodation location at booking
  • Northern Lights are weather-dependent; poor visibility may result in rescheduling rather than cancellation
  • Blue Lagoon access typically includes entry and swimsuit rental; bring towels or rent on-site
  • Children must meet minimum age/size requirements for horseback riding and ATV activities—verify at booking

Who it's for

Families with school-age children seeking combination adventure and natural-spa relaxationNature enthusiasts interested in glaciology, geothermal geology, and tectonic landscapesNorthern Lights photographers and first-time Arctic visitors wanting guided expertiseTravelers preferring private guides and flexible schedules over group-tour constraints

Best time to visit

December through February offers the longest darkness for reliable Northern Lights viewing, though clear skies are never guaranteed in Iceland. Winter also creates stunning contrasts between steaming geothermal features and snow-covered landscapes, making daylight hours ideal for photography.
