Nordlingen Self-Guided Detective Murder Mystery Game

Nordlingen still has its complete medieval wall, and this walk makes use of it. You set out at the Kriegerbrunnen on the Marktplatz, then follow the trail out to the Löpsingen Gate and along the Stadtmauer, passing the Stadtmuseum and the Rieskrater Museum on the way. It is a detective game played on foot, with the walled town as the setting.

The circuit inside the walls is small and level, which makes Nordlingen an easy town to cover with children in tow, with friends, as a couple or with colleagues, and playing solo works just as well. Up to four people form one team and share a single phone, so anyone in a bigger party joins a second or third team instead. Nobody is waiting to lead you and there is no departure to catch, so you can linger at a gate for as long as you like.

At the centre of it is the murder of Balthasar. Coded messages have to be untangled, photographs taken at particular spots, and statements from digital characters weighed against one another. Between the Baldingen Gate and the Deining Gate the evidence builds up, and every correct answer thins out the field of suspects.

Two or more teams turn the walk into a race for the solution, which makes it a practical teambuilding option as much as a day out. You can break off for lunch and continue later, and the case is settled somewhere back inside the walls of Nordlingen.
