About this activity

Explore Mallorca's Hams Caves, a 10-million-year-old underground wonder discovered in 1905, featuring dramatic limestone formations and an illuminated Blue Cave with multimedia storytelling. This half-day tour includes hotel pickup and a visit to a pearl shop, blending natural spectacle with cultural heritage.

The Hams Caves are over 10 million years old, but people has only been able to enjoy their beauty since they were discovered back in 1905 by the speleologist Pedro Caldentey Santandreu (1886-1950) while he was digging for onyx, a precious stone abundant in the region.

In 1910 he managed to produce electricity to illuminate the cave even before electric power had reached the village of Porto Cristo. Using a water mill, a dynamo and a water tank, he generated 16 hours of electric current to enable visits to the caves.

In the Blue cave, with its spectacular new blue lighting using led technology, you can enjoy the educational documentary “Discovering the past” about the history of Majorca, its first inhabitants, the formation of the Hams caves and their discovery.
