About this activity

A comprehensive 7.5-hour 4x4 adventure combining Madeira's rugged interior, world-class wine estates, and dramatic coastal landmarks. Travel off-road through Serra d'Água valley and northside viewpoints, taste five varieties at a premier vineyard, explore Europe's highest cliff at Cabo Girão, and finish with aged Madeira wines at a traditional lodge in Câmara de Lobos.

From Funchal we drive to Serra d'Agua, a valley at the center of the island. After passing this area, we go off-road meeting fantastic views over the north of the island (Porto Moniz, Ribeira da Janela, Paúl da Serra and São Vicente). Then, you will have an unforgettable experience with the main wine producers in Madeira, followed by a guided tour through the largest vineyards along with a wine tasting (1 rose, 2 white, 2 red- included) and a professional explanation about traditions, wine culture and wine production.

From this fabulous experience, we will continue our tour, after lunch break (not included), to one of the most visited places on the island, Cabo Girão, the highest cliff in Europe and second in the World (580 meters), known by its suspended glass floor viewpoint, which offers a spectacular panoramic view over the Atlantic, Câmara de Lobos and Funchal. Later, we will finish our tour at the warm and traditional fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, visiting a Madeira Wine Lodge, to taste (included) some of the famous Madeira wines: Sweet and Dry (3 years old) , Sweet (10 years old) and Dry (15 years old ). A perfect tour for nature and wine lovers.

  • Off-road 4x4 driving through Serra d'Água valley with panoramic views of Porto Moniz and São Vicente
  • Guided vineyard tour at one of Madeira's largest producers with 5-wine tasting (rosé, 2 whites, 2 reds included)
  • Cabo Girão skywalk: suspended glass floor at 580m—Europe's highest cliff, second globally
  • Madeira Wine Lodge experience with aged vintages (3, 10, 15 years old)
  • Intimate fishing village exploration in Câmara de Lobos with authentic local atmosphere

Insider tips

  • Book the morning departure to maximize daylight for photography at Cabo Girão and northern coastal vistas.
  • Wear layers and bring a light jacket—the open-roof 4x4 and high-altitude vineyard zones can be windy and cooler than Funchal.
  • Visit the Madeira Wine Lodge before peak afternoon crowds (after 3pm) for a more personal tasting experience.
  • If prone to motion sickness, take medication before departure; off-road sections include winding mountain paths.

Good to know

  • Lunch is not included; budget 15–20 EUR at roadside cafés or bring packed snacks.
  • Bring camera/phone for world-class cliff and coastal photography; consider a polarizing filter for glare off the Atlantic.
  • Open-roof 4x4 seating is exposed to elements; sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses essential, especially at altitude.
  • Tour is fully accessible to those comfortable with unpaved terrain; notify operator if mobility concerns exist.
  • Hotel pickups in Funchal typically included; confirm your meeting point and time upon booking.
