About this activity

Combine rugged 4x4 off-road adventure with Madeira's wine and food heritage on this full-day immersion. Travel through mountain passes and vineyards, taste local honey, regional wines, and fortified Madeira at a historic lodge—ideal for those seeking nature, culture, and flavour in one journey.

We drive to Serra d'Água on our way to São Vicente, with fantastic views over the north of the island including an amazing off-road in the heart of nature. Then, you will have a sustainable experience at the bee honey museum, where you’ll taste organic bee honey and enjoying beautiful panoramic views.

Then we go to the heart of Madeira's wine region, where you'll be guided across the vineyards, learning about the rich history, culture and typical production techniques. Later, you will taste a selection of one rose, three whites, and two red wines with Portuguese cheese and chorizo. (Lunch not included)

Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs of the world at 580 meters, offers a spectacular panoramic view over the Atlantic (not included 2€).

Then we finish our tour at Henriques & Henriques Madeira Wine Lodge, to taste the famous Madeira wines: Sweet and Dry (3 years old), Sweet (10 years old) and Dry (15 years old) included. A perfect tour inspired by nature and wine lovers.

Insider tips

  • Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and layer clothing—mountain weather changes quickly and the open-roof 4x4 can feel cool at altitude.
  • Bring sun protection and a camera; the cliff views and vineyard landscapes reward photography.
  • Eat a light breakfast beforehand; lunch isn't included, though tastings with cheese and chorizo provide substantial bites.

Good to know

  • Full day is 7.5 hours; confirm pickup location and time with supplier on booking.
  • Open-roof vehicle means wind exposure at altitude—not ideal for those sensitive to cold or motion.
  • Cabo Girão skywalk entry (€2) is optional and not included in tour price.
  • Lunch is not provided; plan to eat before or bring snacks if needed.
