About this activity

Experience Santorini's most dramatic landscapes from the air with a 20-minute helicopter tour covering the caldera, volcanic crater, and iconic coastal landmarks. This flight delivers unobstructed aerial views of whitewashed villages, coloured beaches, and the geology that shaped this famous Cycladic island.

Enjoy a 20-minute flight with a fantastic helicopter where you will see all the major sights. From our starting point, we will fly directly to the Caldera above a place that magic sounds like normality. We will also go to Fira and Imerovigli! We'll head north towards tradition or in other words, Oia! After that, we will fly over the center of the crater of the Greece's most known volcano. Before we finish our flight we will go towards the south to see the lighthouse out of which we will see many famous (reasonably) beaches like White beach and Red beach. Concluding our flight through Akrotiri and Pyrgos on our way back to our base we will be full of stories to share!

Highlights

  • Fly directly over the Santorini Caldera with panoramic views of the volcanic basin
  • Circle above Oia and Fira, capturing the island's most photogenic white-and-blue architecture
  • Pass over the active volcanic crater at the centre of the Aegean's most prominent volcano
  • View the distinctive Red and White Beaches from above, plus the southern lighthouse
  • See traditional villages Akrotiri and Pyrgos during the return leg

Insider tips

  • Book early morning or late afternoon flights for softer light ideal for photography and fewer thermal updrafts
  • Sit on the right side of the helicopter for the best views during the northbound run toward Oia
  • Bring a light camera or GoPro; heavy equipment can be restrictive in the tight cabin space
  • The volcanic crater views are most striking in clear weather—avoid booking during the mistier months if possible

Good to know

  • Flight duration is 20 minutes of actual airtime; allow 45–60 minutes total for check-in, briefing, and boarding
  • Weight restrictions typically apply; confirm with the operator if you have mobility concerns or weigh over 120 kg
  • Bring sunglasses and sunscreen; reflection off white buildings and sea intensifies UV exposure at altitude
  • Seasickness is rare but possible; take medication before departure if you're prone to motion sensitivity
  • Camera and phone photography allowed; no tripods or external attachments permitted in flight

Best time to visit

Late May through September offers the clearest skies and calmest air conditions; avoid early morning summer flights when heat thermals create turbulence. Golden hour (late afternoon) is optimal for photography and comfort.
