Delphi Day Trip

Begin your day tour early in the morning with a pick-up from most Athens city center hotels. Once you settle inside your air-conditioned bus, you will begin to Central Greece via the National highway.

Located at the spur of Mount Parnassus, this two-hour trip from Athens is an opportunity for you to marvel at the Greek countryside. On the way, you will drive past the hilly region of Boeotia and Thebes, a powerful city-state during the classical times. The day tour also includes a brief stop at Livadeia.

Approaching Mount Parnassus, the landscape turns from dry to majestic and dense green. Under two gigantic rocks named Phaedriades, and on top of an impressive plateau, this important pilgrimage site was founded to honor Apollo, the god of harmony, sun, and guardian of the sacred laws of Zeus. For the ancient Greeks, Delphi was the center of the world, the navel of the Earth.

From its foundations, the oracle acquired significant influence all over the ancient world owing to the prophecies of Pythia, the high priestess of Apollo.

Here, you will see the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia, the most emblematic monument and an architectural masterpiece of the classical era, the Doric Sanctuary of Apollo, and the Castalia Spring. This area truly establishes an extraordinary meeting with history for each visitor.

Next, it is time to tour the museum of Delphi, which houses treasures such as the famous "omphalos" or "navel of the world," parts of a frieze with scenes of the exploits of Hercules, and the remarkable Charioteer of Delphi, a masterpiece of Greek sculpture.

Before returning to Athens, you will make a short stop for photo shooting at Arachova, a picturesque mountain town established on the southern mountainside of Mount Parnassus. Savor a delicious traditional Greek lunch at a family-run restaurant (optional) during your free time.

After a fascinating trip, your day trip to Delphi ends back at the original departure point in Athens at around 7 pm.
