About this activity

Explore two UNESCO World Heritage cities in a single day: medieval Ávila with its perfectly preserved 11th-century walls, and Segovia with its iconic Roman aqueduct and fairy-tale Alcázar castle. This comprehensive tour from Madrid combines rich history, architectural landmarks, and guided walking tours of Spain's most atmospheric old towns.

Only Tour to Avila and Segovia Rated 5 Star - Certificate of Excellence

On this Tour we will visit the cities of Segovia and Ávila, declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO on this day trip from Madrid. We will visit the old town of Ávila with after crossing its 11th century walls, we will visit the exterior of the cathedral and the Basilica of San Vicente, the Plaza Mayor, and the interior of the Birthplace of Santa Teresa de Jesús. We will make sure the food is not included, or we will have free time.

Then we will start the second part of the excursion, our drestino, SEGOVIA. We will contemplate its huge Roman aqueduct, the exterior of the Cathedral of Segovia, the Plaza Mayor and the Alcázar of Segovia, a great fortress throughout history, which reminds us of the Castle of Snow White.

We will finish our Walking Tour and return to Madrid.

Highlights

  • Walk Ávila's complete 11th-century city walls—among Europe's best-preserved medieval fortifications
  • Visit the Birthplace of Santa Teresa de Jesús and the Basilica of San Vicente in Ávila's old town
  • See Segovia's 2,000-year-old Roman aqueduct—an engineering marvel spanning the city centre
  • Tour the Alcázar fortress, the inspiration for Disney's Snow White castle
  • Explore both cities' plazas mayores and cathedral exteriors with expert local guidance
  • Free time built in for lunch, shopping, or independent exploration

Insider tips

  • Visit early morning (first departure slots) to beat crowds at Ávila's walls and photograph the aqueduct in golden light
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes—expect 2–3 hours of walking on cobblestones and uneven medieval streets across both cities
  • Book lunch in Segovia's Plaza Mayor rather than tourist-focused restaurants; locals eat on side streets near the cathedral
  • The Alcázar exterior is free; pay entry only if you want the interior tour (not always included, confirm when booking)

Good to know

  • 9-hour total duration includes 90-minute round-trip transfers from Madrid; actual on-site time is ~6.5 hours split between cities
  • Lunch not included; free time allocated in both cities (typically 1.5–2 hours in each)
  • Walking tours cover old town centres; limited wheelchair access due to medieval cobblestones and stairs
  • Meeting point and return location in central Madrid confirmed at booking; bring a printable voucher or digital confirmation
  • Small-group minivan or coach depending on booking size; pick-up from select Madrid hotels may be available

Best time to visit

Visit October–November or March–April for mild weather and fewer crowds. Avoid July–August (extreme heat, peak tourism). Morning departures are preferable to maximise daylight and avoid afternoon coach fatigue; allow Segovia's aqueduct and Alcázar to shine in late-afternoon golden light.
