About this activity

A 4-hour open-roof 4x4 adventure through Madeira's most scenic landmarks, combining dramatic clifftop views, off-road exploration, local food and wine culture, and a charming fishing village. Ideal for shore excursion passengers seeking landscape drama and authentic regional experiences in a single morning or afternoon.

Starting at Boca dos Namorados about 1000 mts high,  you’ll enjoy the stunning views over Nuns valley. Then experience an amazing off-road in our open roof 4x4 to Jardim da Serra known for its Cherry production.

Take a break with us at a typical Madeiran bar, where each sip of freshly made Poncha tells a story from the island's past, helping the local economy (not included).

Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs of the world with 580 mts, known as skywalk, offers a spectacular panoramic view over the Atlantic Ocean (2€ not included).

Our adventure leads us to Henriques & Henriques Madeira wine lodge, where you'll have the chance to try different Madeira wines, from Sweet to Dry (3 years old). Finally to end our trip through Madeira's amazing landscapes, we will visit the very famous fishing village of Câmara de Lobos.

Important: This wine tasting is completely free. Please note that visits to Henriques & Henriques wine lodge may not be available during certain Portuguese holidays.

Highlights

  • Boca dos Namorados viewpoint (1,000m) overlooking Nuns Valley
  • Off-road 4x4 drive through mountain terrain to Jardim da Serra cherry region
  • Cabo Girão skywalk—one of the world's highest sea cliffs at 580m, with Atlantic Ocean panoramas
  • Free Madeira wine tasting at Henriques & Henriques wine lodge (3+ year aged varieties)
  • Traditional Madeiran poncha break at a local bar
  • Scenic fishing village of Câmara de Lobos

Insider tips

  • Poncha (local sugarcane spirit) is potent—pace yourself if you're driving or sensitive to strong alcohol
  • Book wine lodge visit ahead during Portuguese holiday seasons (availability restrictions apply)
  • Wear layers; mountain elevations mean cooler temperatures despite Madeira's generally mild climate
  • Arrive early if joining a ship excursion to avoid queue times at Cabo Girão skywalk entrance

Good to know

  • Open-roof vehicle offers unobstructed photo opportunities but minimal weather protection—bring sunscreen and a light rain jacket
  • Skywalk glass platform entry (€2) and poncha sampling costs are separate from tour price
  • 4-hour duration is tight for all stops; some visits may be brief or coincide with other group tours
  • Suitable for moderate fitness levels; expect some uneven terrain during off-road sections
  • Typical meeting point in Câmara de Lobos; confirm exact pickup location and ship tender timing with operator

Best time to visit

Late morning or early afternoon departures offer the clearest visibility for cliff and ocean views. Avoid Portuguese holidays when the wine lodge may be closed; dry season (May–September) provides the most stable weather for open-roof driving.
