About this activity

Plaza Alta is the starting point, the square in the centre of Algeciras with the church of Our Lady of La Palma on one side. The first clue sends you off the square and down through the surrounding streets towards María Cristina Park. What follows is a self-guided detective game: you walk, you read the clues, and Algeciras supplies the corners where things happened.

The route stays within a small part of town and involves only gentle slopes, so it works for families with children, for friends and for a group of colleagues on an afternoon out. One ticket covers a team of up to four people on a single phone; bigger groups buy several tickets and split into teams. Solo play is possible as well. Nobody is guiding you and no start time is fixed, so early or late is your decision.

The case is the murder of Balthasar. There are codes to break, photo tasks that fix a moment in place, and digital characters whose statements have to be set against each other. Near the Algeciras Municipal Museum one version of events falls apart, and the walk over to the Parque de Las Acacias is where the next suspect surfaces.

Two teams working the same case at the same time makes a competition of it, which is the reason it also serves as a teambuilding exercise. Stop when you feel like it, start again later, and let the case close back where it began, on the squares of Algeciras.
