About this activity

Explore one of Central Europe's most dramatic natural wonders—a sprawling labyrinth of sandstone gorges and towering rock formations straddling the Czech-Polish border near Wrocław. This 7.5-hour guided tour combines scenic hiking through named rock formations with visits to hidden waterfalls, drawing inspiration from the landscapes that captivated Goethe and later served as filming locations for fantasy cinema.

After a scenic 2-hour trip from Wrocław, arrive at the picturesque village of Adrspach on the Czech-Polish border. Walk through the extensive city of rocks, which forms a maze of impressive gorges.

During the walk, enjoy spectacular views of the bizarre rock formations and discover their unusual names such as Lovers, Mayor and Mayor, Sugar Bread, and Tooth Karkonosch.

Then see one of the main highlights - a beautiful waterfall surrounded by the rocks which are known to have bewitched the most famous German Romantic poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1790.

After the walk, enjoy some free time to eat lunch in the local restaurant (your own expense) before you take the pleasant return ride to Wroclaw.

Please note: this tour does not include hotel pick up and drop off service. This means that you will have to arrange your transfers on your own in order to reach the designated meeting point and start the tour. Meeting point: Kazimierza Wielkiego 19A

Highlights

  • Navigate a vast maze of sculpted sandstone gorges with whimsical local names (Lovers, Mayor's Tower, Sugar Bread, Tooth of Karkonosch)
  • Visit a pristine waterfall nestled deep within the rock formations
  • Walk terrain that inspired Johann Wolfgang von Goethe during his 1790 travels
  • Discover sites linked to major fantasy film productions
  • Experience dramatic viewpoints across jagged pinnacles and steep ravines

Insider tips

  • Wear sturdy hiking boots with good grip—narrow passages and wet rocks after rain require careful footing
  • Bring a light rain jacket; the gorges channel moisture and weather can change quickly
  • Pack snacks beyond lunch; the return journey is long and vending options are limited en route
  • Arrive early at the meeting point to secure a good seat on the minivan during the 2-hour approach

Good to know

  • Hotel pick-up/drop-off not included; arrange your own transport to Kazimierza Wielkiego 19A, Wrocław
  • Lunch at local restaurant is your own expense—budget accordingly and confirm restaurant opening hours in advance
  • 7.5 hours total includes 2 hours round-trip transfer; active hiking time is approximately 3–4 hours
  • The terrain involves climbing, uneven steps, and narrow passages; not suitable for mobility restrictions
