About this activity

Explore two of Peru's most iconic Inca sites across 2 days: traverse the terraced landscapes and colonial villages of the Sacred Valley, then ascend to the mysterious mountaintop citadel of Machu Picchu. This small-group tour (max 15 people) combines hands-on cultural experiences with expert-guided archaeology.

An amazing tour awaits you! We start our VIP excursion through the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Chinchero, where we will join a traditional weaving workshop, continuing with our guided tour of Maras Moray circuit and in the afternoon we will visit the village of Ollantaytambo. Arrived in Aguas Calientes, we will have on next day a guided tour of Machu Picchu's remains. Tour is limited to a maximum of 15 travelers.

Highlights

  • Participate in a traditional textile weaving workshop in Chinchero with local artisans
  • Walk the scenic Maras-Moray circuit featuring geometric salt ponds and agricultural terraces
  • Explore the fortress town of Ollantaytambo with its impressive Inca masonry and strategic river setting
  • Guided tour of Machu Picchu's temples, residences, and astronomical structures
  • Small group format (maximum 15 travellers) allows personalised attention and flexibility

Insider tips

  • Arrive in Cusco at least one day early to acclimatise to high altitude (3,400 m) and reduce altitude sickness risk during trekking
  • Wear layers: the Sacred Valley can be cool in morning but warm by midday; Machu Picchu is cloudier and cooler than the valleys below
  • Book train tickets to Aguas Calientes in advance during peak season (June–August); the tour likely includes this but confirm logistics with supplier

Good to know

  • Physical fitness: moderate hiking required at Maras-Moroy and Machu Picchu; paths include steep sections and uneven terrain
  • What to bring: sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen, hat, reusable water bottle, camera, and cash for tips/local purchases not included in price
  • Machu Picchu entrance ticket typically included; confirm with supplier before booking
  • Most meals not included—budget extra for lunch in villages and Aguas Calientes
  • Meeting point and pickup time from Cusco hotel will be confirmed post-booking

Who it's for

Cultural enthusiasts interested in Inca history and textile traditionsModerate hikers seeking accessible mountain experiences without high-altitude treksSmall-group travellers who value personalised guidance over large tour busesFirst-time visitors to Peru wanting an efficient 2-day introduction to top sites

Best time to visit

Visit May–October (dry season) for clear skies and stable weather; avoid November–March (wet season) when cloud cover obscures Machu Picchu and trails become slippery. Early morning at Machu Picchu (before 10:00 AM) offers fewer crowds and better light for photography.
