Positano has no beach of its own—the famous pastel-coloured village sits vertically on cliffs, with access to small pebble beaches via steep staircases and private boat services.

The village was nearly abandoned in the early 1900s until artists and writers rediscovered it in the 1950s, transforming it into one of Europe's most exclusive coastal destinations.

Positano's iconic architecture—stacked pastel houses in pink, peach, and yellow—was born from practical necessity: fishermen's homes were built as steeply as possible to save limited flat land.

The village has no cars in its core; the narrow stepped streets are navigable only on foot, making it one of Italy's most pedestrian-friendly destinations.

Positano's main beach, Spiaggia Grande, is backed by a working fishing village that still supplies fresh seafood to local restaurants despite the town's upscale reputation.
