Things to Do in Burren

The Burren's distinctive limestone landscape was shaped by glaciers during the last ice age, leaving behind 116 square kilometers of karst terrain with virtually no soil.

Despite its bare, rocky appearance, the Burren is home to over 700 plant species, including arctic-alpine plants that normally grow only in much colder regions.

Doolin village, on the edge of the Burren, is famous as the traditional Irish music capital of Ireland, with impromptu sessions happening nightly in local pubs.

The Burren contains around 1,500 archaeological sites, including stone forts, dolmens, and the 12th-century Leamanagh Castle, making it one of Ireland's richest archaeological regions.

The Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland's most-visited natural attractions, rise 214 meters above the Atlantic Ocean and form the southwestern boundary of the Burren.

The region's unique combination of limestone pavement, rare flora, and coastal views led UNESCO to designate it a Global Geopark in 2016.
